As many of you know I picked up the classic “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and began reading with a new perspective on the process. For any of you that have read this must read classic you may recall that very close to the beginning Stephen R. Covey asks the reader to read as if they will be teaching the information contained in the book. The first time through the book I did not really take that approach.
However, in the process of talking with some business associates I had a renewed interest to read the book from the beginning, with the intent of teaching the information and from the perspective of how this material applies to the MLM Industry. If you have been in the MLM industry for any time at all, you have probably had someone talk with you about developing your “Why”.
While I did not connect the two during my first read it became very apparent that the second habit as discussed in “
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” is all about finding your “Why”. Don’t run out, pick up a copy and expect to read about finding your “Why”, but it is very much about the same concept: “Beginning with the End in Mind”. If you have any expectations of success in your business you much very diligently work at creating a vivid picture in your mind of what success will look like for you.
There are many readers that have this knowledge, have read this information in the past, but there are very few people who truly implement the process of “Beginning with the End in Mind”. You may be asking yourself how I can be so sure of myself. From the simple fact that the most successful people in business and professional athletics all implement the process of visualization. If more of us, relentlessly implemented this process and created a habit of visualizing our success, what that success would look like, how it would feel and the overall experience, many more people would have higher levels of success.
Dr. Charles Garfield, completed an extensive study that uncovered the fact that all of the peak performers in business and athletics are avid users of visualization. Long before they achieved the success that they now hold, they lived that success in their minds. Yes, they “Began with the End in Mind”.
Network Marketers, Direct Sales Representatives, and Home Based Business owners all deal with the same challenges. Very few people did not have a busy life before taking on the new responsibilities of being a business owner. Other’s have family, church, job, and a multitude of other responsibilities. Still others will run into criticism from those that have experienced failure, people have no hopes or dreams, and those that simply know everything and can tell you exactly why you are crazy to try building your own business. There is an endless list of challenges that you will experience in the process of trying to build your Home Based Business, so if you don’t have a strong “Why”, your chances of success dwindle very quickly.
Start your MLM business with a clear understanding of your goals. Create a very vivid picture of what success will look like, what it will feel like and experience it to its fullest extent in your mind. Think about it this way. If you don’t have a clear picture of where you want to go and an understanding of where you are today, how will you get from point A to point B? In a way you are creating a map of what it will take for you to get from your current situation to one of financial success and independence.
Knowing what is deeply important to you and having a clear picture of where you are going will allow you to navigate all of the obstacles that stand between you and the success that awaits you.
While there is not nearly enough room here to cover visualization in detail, you must know that visualization is very much a function of “Right” brain. The challenge to this is that our world is very much dominated by our “Left” brain which controls logic and verbal activities. Our “Right” brain is all about creativity (pictures), emotions, and our ability to be intuitive. The good news is that we have the ability to train ourselves to tap into the power of our “Right” brain. Don’t plan to accomplish this in a single day of working on your “Right” brain, but you can expect to make progress in a rapid fashion with consistent practice.
As with any goals you must also take the step of writing those goals down and the activities that will support those goals. “Begin with the End in Mind”, an understanding of where you with respect to that end and the activities required to achieve that success. Taking these steps will better position you for success in your MLM business than anything else that you can do.
For those of you that have been working at your business for a while, it’s not too late. The second habit of highly effective people can work for you just as well. It is never too late to discover or redefine your “Why”.
If you have never read “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” or if it has been a while since you read it, I cannot stress how important that can been in helping you get on track for success. Work on your “Right” brain so that you are better equipped to Visualize the future that you desire and before long you will be one of the top earners in the MLM industry. To Your Success!
